Venice Pride Announces 2017 Lineup & Sponsors

NFL Teams L.A. Rams & L.A. Chargers first to officially come out in support of LGBTQ+ Pride Event

Venice Pride, one of the nation’s freshest LGBTQ+ pride celebrations, today announced the full lineup of public events and activities to mark its second annual celebration of diversity. Free and open to all, the second annual Venice Pride hosted by the City of Los Angeles will be held on June 2 and 3, 2017.

The Venice Pride Sign Lighting & Block Party is scheduled from 5:00 to 11:00 PM on Friday, June 2nd and the Venice Pride Festival is scheduled from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 3rd at Muscle Beach and surrounding neighborhood. The events will be an opportunity to celebrate the diverse community in LA’s Westside amid the backdrop of Venice Beach’s eclectic spirit and will feature musical performances and the unveiling of a colorful public art project.

More than twenty national and local organizations are also confirmed to be supporting the 2017 events, including the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers, marking the first and second NFL teams in history to officially sponsor an LGBT pride event. In celebration of their involvement, the Los Angeles Rams are officially debuting a LGBT pride logo on Venice Pride’s website—another first for a NFL team. Voices of support for the 2017 event have been given by leading figures in business and public office representing Venice and Greater Los Angeles including Mayor Eric Garcetti.

“Commemorating Venice’s history of inclusion, individuality and diversity is at the heart of Venice Pride,” said Grant Turck, Executive Director, Venice Pride. “We are excited to bring our community together for this unique event and are grateful to the support from our sponsors and partners who help make this celebration of our community possible. We are thrilled that the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers have chosen our celebration to make this welcome and historic overture of inclusion to the LGBT community.”

“I am proud to celebrate Venice Pride and all LGBTQ Angelenos this year with an unequivocal message: we will stand up for each other, speak out for our neighbors, and march boldly forward together toward equality for all people,” said Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles Mayor.

“We are proud to work with Venice Pride and to stand in alignment with the LGBT community that is such an important part of the fabric of Los Angeles,” said Los Angeles Rams Vice President of Community Affairs Molly Higgins. “Inclusion has always been a valued part of our organization and we see this as a unique way to publicly celebrate the diversity that makes this community so special.”

“Google is over-the-rainbow happy to support Venice Pride and our shared commitment to inclusion and diversity!” exclaimed Rebecca Prozan, Google’s Head of Public Affairs for California.

In May 2016 the LGBTQ+ community lost a 37-year-old sanctuary and L.A.’s only remaining gay bar west of the 405 Freeway, the Roosterfish on Abbot Kinney Blvd. In response Turck enlisted the help of other Venice locals including Daniel Samakow and George Francisco to organize the first ever Venice Pride last June as a grassroots effort to remind the LGBTQ+ community that they have a place to feel welcome on the Westside. The inaugural one-day event was attended by an estimated crowd of more than 2,000 people and included a surprise appearance by YouTube star Gigi Gorgeous.
